(From Catoctin Creek Press Release) On Monday, April 1, Catoctin Creek began construction on their new facility, located at 120 W. Main Street in Purcellville, Virginia. The four year old distillery has recently outgrown its space on Richardson Lane, and last year purchased the historic Case Building on Main Street to begin its expansion.

The construction process was bid out to five contractors throughout the region. Ultimately, Mullally Construction Company, Inc. (MCCI) was chosen as the general contractor for the more than $500,000 expansion and restoration project. The project has become quite complex, with renovation of the historic building becoming one of the primary goals of the construction project.

“What we have is a historic building that was built in the second year of Prohibition,” notes Scott Harris, founder of the distillery. “The building has been neglected through the years, and we would like to rejuvenate this jewel on Main Street.”

Improvements to the building include a completely new electrical system, new plumbing, a sprinkler system, masonry repairs, roofing repairs, and new HVAC systems.

“In addition to that, it is still our goal to place a solar array on the roof to reduce our energy consumption,” says Mr. Harris. “What we aim to build is the greenest building in the Town of Purcellville.”

Other green efforts include installing a new glycol system to reduce water consumption, LED lights, and other energy saving innovations.

“Mullally Construction are ready to get started on this exciting project,” said Peter Mullally, CEO of MCCI. “This is a win for the County, Town, MCCI and Catoctin Creek!”

Construction should last from April to mid-June, with an expected opening in late-June, provided there are no big surprises in the building. During the construction phase, normal production and touring operations will continue at the company’s present facility at 37251C East Richardson Lane in northern Purcellville.
