(From Wemyss Malts Press Release) Boutique Scotch whisky company Wemyss Malts continues to bring exciting and high quality new Scotch whiskies to the U.S. through Classic & Vintage Artisanal Spirits, a division of Domaine Select Wine Estates (DSWE), a Manhattan based wine & spirits import and distribution company. Two new Scotch whiskies are now nationally available: “The Hive,” an 8 year old blended malt Scotch and a single malt single cask bottling, “Heathery Smoke,” a 30 year old from Caol Ila distillery on Islay.
DSWE CEO & Founder, Paolo Domeneghetti has expressed his excitement at offering American consumers these two new offerings and points out that, “The US market for whiskies shows no signs of slowing down, and Wemyss has a proven track record of crafting Scotch whiskies which not just critics but also consumers love. These new offerings are a wonderful complement to an already impressive range.”
The Hive 8 year old is the latest addition to Wemyss’ collection of blended malt Scotch whiskies, which, unlike blended Scotches, do not contain any grain whiskies. Wemyss’ blended malt line contains The Hive, Spice King and Peat Chimney. Displaying a natural honeyed-sweetness, The Hive 8 year old has already garnered critical acclaim with silver medals at the 2012 International Spirits Competition (ISC) and The Spirits Business Magazine Whisky Masters.
Heathery Smoke is the latest single cask exclusively available to the U.S. market and is part of a select, 272 bottle release. Wemyss selected this single cask from Caol Ila distillery in Islay under the expert guidance of Scotch expert and writer Charlie Maclean. This Caol Ila carries its age well, with an elegant nose of light citrus and heather while the palate exhibits earthy flavors sweet smoke and toasted malt. *
