Approximately 65 cases of the popular whiskey, including stocks of the rare and hard to get Pappy Van Winkle 20 Year Old bourbon, were stolen from Buffalo Trace storage areas. According to Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton, the theft looks like an inside job. The robbery was reported to the authorities on Tuesday, and at this time the police report they have no suspects.

Reportedly, the theft carried away about $26,000 of worth of premium whiskey. Sheriff Melton indicated the haul consisted of about $25,350 in 3-bottle cases of Pappy 20YO, and about $675 in nine cases of 13YO Van Winkle Family Reserve rye. Production of Pappy Van Winkle whiskey at Buffalo Trace is very small, with the distillery shipping roughly 7,000 cases per year, and with the Pappy Van Winkle 20 Year Old comprising only a fraction of those 7,000 cases.
