San Antonio-based Ranger Creek Brewing & Distilling has entered into a distribution agreement with Lipman Brothers to make their award-winning line-up of Texas whiskeys available in Tennessee starting Feb. 7.  The 3-year old distillery’s products have been available only in Texas up until now.  Recent recognition for their flagship Texas bourbon has increased out-of-state demand, and Ranger Creek selected Nashville as the first U.S. market outside of Texas.   The choice of Tennessee was due to a number of factors, the primary of which was the head distiller’s alumni connection to Vanderbilt and Nashville.  Their lineup of creative, innovative, Texas whiskey will be initially distributed in Nashville.

“Nashville is an exciting city with an evolving food and drink scene that is embracing of artisanal spirits like ours,” explains TJ Miller, Head Distiller and Operations Manager of Ranger Creek and Vanderbilt MBA class of ‘07.  “We’re especially excited about the growing craft whiskey scene being pushed forward by local companies like Corsair Artisan.  We share an interest in making innovative whiskey and exploring the use of smoked grain.”  Miller’s connection to Nashville, along with Lipman Brothers’s interest and reach, made Tennessee an easy choice as Ranger Creek’s first market outside of Texas.  Three of Ranger Creek’s whiskeys will be available in Tennessee, including two Small Caliber Series premium sipping whiskeys and one innovative white whiskey made from a Belgian beer.

Ranger Creek’s Small Caliber Series is a line of creative, limited edition whiskeys aged in small barrels.  Ranger Creek .36 Texas Bourbon is their award-winning flagship whiskey.  It has received numerous accolades, including a double gold medal from Fifty Best Bourbon, a gold medal from the Beverage Testing Institute, a bronze medal from the American Distilling Institute, and a rating of 93 in the 2014 Jim Murray whiskey bible.  The 96 proof bourbon is made with Texas corn and aged in San Antonio to give it a character unique to Texas.  Ranger Creek Rimfire is a mesquite smoked single malt whiskey.  This 86 proof, innovative scotch-style whiskey is inspired by Texas BBQ and is smoked with mesquite instead of the peat used in smoked scotches.  These whiskeys are sold in small 375 ml bottles to represent the small barrels in which they were matured.  Each bottle is hand labeled with the batch number, bottle number, season, and maturation time.  Suggested retail price is $34.99.

Ranger Creek’s lineup will also include La Bestia Defavorable, an innovative Belgian White Whiskey.  Ranger Creek is a “brewstillery” founded on the shared love of beer and whiskey.  Last year, they experimented with distilling their Belgian-style Dark Strong Ale beer called La Bestia Aimable (The Friendly Beast) into a spirit.  The result was a delicious, unique white whiskey that they named La Bestia Defavorable (The Unfriendly Beast).  This 80 proof spirit is packaged in a 750-ml beer bottle to showcase its relationship to the beer from which it was born.  Suggested retail price is $32.99.

Ranger Creek’s Texas whiskeys will be available at fine spirits retailers across Nashville, including Frugal Macdoogal’s Liquor Warehouse and Craft Brewed Wine and Spirits.  Miller and fellow co-founder of Ranger Creek Mark McDavid will be in Nashville on Friday, Feb. 7 and Saturday, Feb. 8 to release their Texas whiskies.
