Compass Box To Put Out Two New Whiskies

By Richard Thomas

The critically acclaimed Scotch whisky blender and bottler Compass Box has announced that two new whiskies are slotted for release this autumn.

First is The Lost Blend, which is already in distribution in the UK, US and Europe. The release is a homage to Compass Box’s first vatted malt release, Eleuthera, which was retired in 2004 after the some of the constituent single malts became unavailable. The Lost Blend is intended to have a similar style as Eleuthera, smoky yet fruity, and is a marriage of three separate single malts.

Great King Street, The Glasgow Blend is the second release. This is the fruition of an experimental project by Compass Box late last year, when they released two limited editions of the Great King Street blended Scotch line, Blue and Orange, and committed to making one of them a new, permanent expression. Judging from the reddish orange color of the Glasgow Blend label, presumably it was the Orange experimental batch that came out on top and served as the basis for this release. Following the Compass Box style for blends, the Glasgow Blend has a high proportion of malt whisky (66%, coming from Islay, Highlands and Speyside) compared to grain whisky (33%, coming from a Lowland distillery in Fife). The Glasgow Blend will be available in the UK and Europe in mid-October, and in North America after November 1st.

  1. Sounds delicious, any idea if it will be chill filtered or not?

    • There was nothing about that in the literature I sent, but usually Compass Box doesn’t filter its whiskies. I’d be surprised if they did in these cases.
