Heaven Hill Warehouses Lose Roofs In High Winds

By Richard Thomas

Winds clocked at 95 mph by the National Weather Service tore the roofing from two Heaven Hill warehouses in Bardstown, Kentucky. Warehouse O lost its entire roof, while Warehouse P suffered severe damage amounting to the loss of half its roof.

Between them, the two warehouses store more than 19,000 barrels of whiskey. According to Heaven Hill, none of the barrels were damaged.

The incident is reminiscent of a 2006 tornado that tore the roof off a Buffalo Trace warehouse in Frankfort. That happenstance of nature caused the upper-tier barrels enduring the full brunt of Kentucky’s sweltering summer weather while the roof was repaired, resulting in the serendipitous and excellent Colonel E.H. Taylor “Tornado” Bourbon. Only time will tell if Heaven Hill will have the basis of a future, storm-related special edition of its own.
