Jack Daniel’s Releases First Cask Strength Whiskey

By Richard Thomas

The latest Tennessee whiskey release from Jack Daniel’s is a first for the Lynchburg, Tennessee distillery, as the label indicates. The whiskey is not only a single barrel, but also bottled at cask strength.

Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Barrel Proof is billed as a “prohibition-era” whiskey by its makers. As is customary for single barrel whiskeys, each label will indicate a barrel number, since each batch of bottles is drawn from one unblended barrel. The designation of “barrel proof” (i.e. cask strength) indicates no cutting with water prior to bottling. The proof is expected to range between 125 and 140, and a standard 750 ml bottle will retail for $65.
