Fourth Bourbon Heist Defendant Cops A Plea

By Richard Thomas

Dustin Adkins of Georgetown, Kentucky, 42, plead guilty to criminal conspiracy to receive stolen property over $10,000 on Thursday for role in the infamous Kentucky Bourbon Heist case.

Adkins was one of the nine originally indicted in April for participating in a criminal syndicate engaged in stealing and selling bourbon from Buffalo Trace and Wild Turkey, as well as dealing in illegal steroids. The syndicate was allegedly led by Gilbert Curtsinger, an employee of Buffalo Trace who was arrested in March.

In his plea, Adkins admitted to his role as middleman in Curtsinger’s operation. He also agreed to cooperate against other co-conspirators in future trials. Adkins has plead guilty to a Class A misdemeanor, and might serve up to one year in prison.

Michael and Ronnie Ballad had already plead guilty in May to the same charge. Leslie Wright, a former Buffalo Trace security guard who was indicted for her role in the bourbon thefts, was indicted in May and plead guilty in June.
