Bardstown Distillery Receives Still

By Richard Thomas

The Bardstown Bourbon Company crossed an important milestone on Friday when they received their 50-foot column still from Louisville’s Vendome Copper & Brass Works. The column still arrived in one piece, and was hoisted and lowered into place by crane. The new distillery is on track for its opening date in September of this year.

An interesting feature of Bardstown Bourbon’s new still, one that is reflective of the prominence of tourism in the modern Kentucky bourbon scene, are its rectangular glass manways. These allow visitors to actually see the alcohol distilling process unfold inside the column.

The $25 million distillery project began in October 2014, and hired Steve Nally as its Master Distiller. Nally is known to bourbon enthusiasts as a former Maker’s Mark Master Distiller, and for his work at Wyoming Whiskey.
