Loch Lomond Bringing Its “Crown Jewels” To U.S.

The Loch Lomond Group, an independent distiller and blender of Scotch whiskies, is set to unveil an expansive selection from its portfolio in the United States this month. Fourteen of its bottlings will initially be available, each a fine example of its region and style. This range of expressions is ambitious in scope, bringing refreshing new tasting notes to discerning American palettes while also providing great variety and versatility to satisfy curious new explorers of the spirit of Scotland.

The crown jewels of the Loch Lomond Collection include Loch Lomond Reserve and Signature Blends, Loch Lomond Original Single Malt, Loch Lomond 12 and 18 Year Old Single Malts, Loch Lomond Single Grain, Glen Scotia Double Cask, Glen Scotia 15 Year Old, Glen Scotia Victoriana, Inchmurrin 12 Year Old, Inchmurrin 18 Year Old, Inchmurrin Madeira Wood Finish and High Commissioner Blended Scotch Whisky. The rare expression of Littlemill 25 Year Old Single Malt, the last of limited and precious stocks from a now silent Lowland distillery, will also be available.

As an independent bottler and distiller, the Loch Lomond Group has 250 years of distilling heritage and currently owns the Loch Lomond malt and grain distillery at the head of the iconic Loch Lomond in the Highlands, as well as the Glen Scotia distillery in Campbeltown.

FROM LOCH LOMOND
The Loch Lomond Distillery runs a pair of standard pot stills, as well as three pairs of pot stills with rectifying heads, these together with a continuous still which is used exclusively with malted barley, allowing a single distillery to produce 11 malt styles. The Scottish spirit of independence runs deep in Loch Lomond, a brand known to “never follow” since its inception in 1814, drawing on its own grain distillery and in-house cooperage operated by coopers with over 100 years of combined experience. Loch Lomond is centrally located in the territory that marks the boundary between the Lowlands and the Highlands of Scotland, and the distillery combines the attributes of both regions.

  • LOCH LOMOND SINGLE GRAIN: made with 100% malted barley, is like a single malt but it is aged in a a coffey still, not a pot still. It is the first single grain from Scotland, and is poised to be a leader in this emerging category. SRP $25.50
  • LOCH LOMOND RESERVE: blended scotch whisky with a unique blend of malt and grain, married in re-charred oak casks. SRP $31
  • LOCH LOMOND SIGNATURE: married and conditioned in 100 barrel cask Solera. The Solera system combines Olorosso Sherry casks and American Oak casks that have been recharged to create an intensity and smoothness. SRP $28
  • LOCH LOMOND ORIGINAL: a single malt Scotch whisky with a distinctive background character with a hunt of smoke and peat SRP $28

FROM GLEN SCOTIA
Founded in 1832, The Glen Scotia Distillery is one of only 3 distilleries producing in this area making Glen Scotia one of the few Campbeltown whiskies available in the USA.

  • GLEN SCOTIA DOUBLE CASK: Finished in bourbon barrels followed by time in Pedro Ximenez Sherry Casks SRP $54
  • GLEN SCOTIA VICTORIANA: Master Blender selects special casks to replicate finest whiskeys. Made in Victorian Era (non chill filtered) SRP $91
  • GLEN SCOTIA 15 YEAR OLD: Gently aged in American Oak barrels. Signature nose of vanilla, interwoven with subtle notes of sea spray and aromatic fruits. SRP $66

INCHMURRIN
The Inchmurrin range of three distinctive whiskies, named after the grassy isle and the largest of Loch Lomond’s islands, are also produced at the historic Loch Lomond Distillery. Grassy notes and hints of pear, crème caramel, vanilla and fudge. Aged in 3 hand selected bourbon casks, refilled and recharged.

  • INCHMURRIN 12 YEAR OLD: SRP $61
  • INCHMURRIN 18 YEAR OLD: SRP $110
  • INCHMURRIN MADEIRA WOOD FINISH: Master Distiller Bill White selects individual American Oak Casks before marrying them for further maturation in casks previously used for fortified madeira wines. The end result is an orchard fruit character of peach and pear with marzipan and nutmeg and a nutty long finish. SRP $68

FROM HIGH COMMISSIONER

  • HIGH COMMISSIONER BLEND: a blend selected from fine grain and mat whiskies. SRP $16

FROM LITTLEMILL
The last blend of spirits produced by what was believed to be Scotland’s oldest distillery, before it was closed due a 2004 fire. Founded in 1772. Despite the distillery closing in 1994, owners Loch Lomond have been releasing some of the now-mature stocks every year. It has been bottled at 25 years old. Aged in a combination of ten American and European oak cask, it was married together in first-fill Oloroso sherry casks. Limited to 250 bottles.

  • LITTLE MILL 25 YEAR OLD: an ultra-rare expression from the now silent Lowland distillery.The distillery, which used Highland water and peat from Stornoway and Perthshire, produced spirits acclaimed for their subtly floral nose and vanilla redolence. This expression is expected to quickly become sought after by serious collectors. SRP $3,000
