New Orphan Barrel Is A 28 Year Old George Dickel

By Richard Thomas

Diageo’s Orphan Barrel series of American whiskeys has now reached its ninth release with Whoop & Holler American Whiskey. Distilled and aged at George Dickel Distillery in Cascade Hollow, Tennessee, Whoop & Holler is a 28 year old, making it the oldest installment in the Orphan Barrel series to date.

The whiskey is described as having been made using Dickel’s version of the Lincoln County Process, or sugar maple charcoal filtration, and with the staple Dickel mashbill of 84% corn, 8% rye and 8% malted barley. Whoop & Holler is therefore a George Dickel 28 Year Old in all but name. Interestingly, Diageo chose to make this release an Orphan Barrel and not a Dickel, however, and also chose to name it “American Whiskey” and not bourbon or Tennessee Whiskey.

Whoop & Holler is bottled at 84 proof (42% ABV), and will retail for $175 for a 750 ml bottle.
