As reported by Owensboro, Kentucky’s Messenger-Inquirer, what was once the Old Charles Medley Distillery and is now known as the O.Z. Tyler Distillery went operational last week. This marks the first time whiskey has been made in Owensboro since 1992.

O.Z. Tyler is especially noteworthy as the first dedicated whiskey distillery to use TerrePURE, the technology developed by the Terressentia Corporation of South Carolina. TerrePURE reportedly uses ultrasonic techniques to accelerate certain aspects of whiskey maturation, and the Owensboro distillery was renamed for the inventor of the technique. Cavalry Last Stand Bourbon, reviewed today by The Whiskey Reviewer, is made using the TerrePURE process.

The revived distillery is projected to have a 70,000 barrel per year production capacity, and using its accelerated aging process should have its first in-house products on the market by this time next year.
