Loch Lomond Spill Claims 60,000L Of Whisky

By Richard Thomas

A warehouse accident reported on October 23 in Catrine, Scotland has claimed approximately 60,000 liters of whisky.

Reportedly an undetected leak in one of Loch Lomond Distiller’s storage vats caused the whisky, equivalent to over 70,000 bottles, to leak into the ground or drain into the River Ayr.

The Health and Safety Executive and Scottish Environmental Protection Agency investigated the leak’s aftermath, amid fears it was a potential danger to the public. No harm to local wildlife has been discovered.

This is the second such accident to occur at the Catrine facility. A smaller leak of stronger spirit, roughly 6,600 liters worth, was spilled there in 2011. At that time, Loch Lomond was under different management.
