Journeyman Distillery has another winner in its Corsets, Whips and Whiskey. This is a barrel strength, 118.3 proof and 100% wheat whiskey bottled as a no age statement (NAS) expression.

Journeyman Distillery in Three Oaks, Michigan operates out of the historic Featherbone Corset and Buggy Whip Factory. Knowing this, the name becomes obvious.

I like wheated bourbons that have a high wheat content, well above the required minimum 51% corn mashbill. Corsets, Whips and Whiskey sets itself apart from other wheat whiskeys as a very flavorful, power packed full cask strength whiskey.

The Whiskey
It is a beautiful deep brown color with orange tints throughout. The highlights are both golden and shining copper.

The aromas are medium in strength, but are readily available and rise eagerly to meet your interest. They are filled with a distinct tingling short of any burn and serve to really focus your attention. There are notes of fresh cut lumber, a sweet earthiness, as well as caramel with some distant berry aromas. Allowing your glass some extended exposure to the air will soften some of this intensity.

The mouthfeel is surprisingly oily creating a warm welcoming experience. On the palate, this whiskey offers caramel, oak and pepper in a slightly hot format. It continues for an extended period of time gradually transitioning to what appears to be a fairly short finish. The deep caramel with some toffee presents some significant flavor that continues to exert influence.

The initial short finish is eventually replaced by a very long finish. A new wave hits and continues to grow in intensity transitioning to white pepper and producing an attention getting hot lasting finish.

It’s definitely hot, but still very enjoyable consumed neat. A little water softens every aspect without changing any of the attributes. An ice cube may be required by many consumers. Journeyman Distillery Corsets, Whips and Whiskey is a very enjoyable and satisfying pour that I want to keep on my shelf. I just don’t think it’s going to last that long.

The Price
You can find it offered anywhere from $45.00 to $65.00. If you’re interested in a very memorable drinking experience, this is one whiskey you’ll want to remember.

  2. Thank you for the reviews they’re always great to read but please stop putting pricing, your way off for small business in certain cities and it makes us look bad.
