Ardbeg’s Space Scotch Set To Return To Earth
By Richard Thomas
In one of the most novel moves in modern whiskey innovation, the Scotch single malt brand Ardbeg launched samples of its whisky into space so as to test the effects of gravity on whisky maturation. Through the space company NanoRacks, Ardbeg’s single malt has been racked on the International Space Station for three years. Now the vials of sample whiskey are scheduled to return to earth on September 12.
The vials will land in Kazakhstan, the traditional landing point for Russian spacecraft, before being flown to Houston, Texas for comparison with the control samples that were aged in Ardbeg’s warehouse #3.
Ardbeg has capitalized on the space project by launching a string of limited releases, and the September 12 return will coincide with the release of their third installment of the Supernova series, billed as the peatest Ardbeg yet.
