Lagavulin Celebrates 200th Anniversary With 25 Year Old Single Malt
By Richard Thomas
The famed Islay distillery Lagavulin started the commemoration of it’s 200th year in operation with an eight year old single malt. Now Lagavulin is making its second bicentennial release in the form of a 25 year old single malt.
Lagavulin 25 Year Old is drawn from sherry cask-aged stock and bottled at cask strength. This new 2016 release should not be confused with past Lagavulin 25 Year Old expressions, examples of which are still available in the UK and priced in the £1,000 range.
This 2016, 200th Anniversary Lagavulin 25 Year Old will come in a limited, 8,000 bottle production run. The U.S. consignment will consist of just 1,200 bottles, priced at $1,200 per 750 ml bottle. Pricing in the UK, Europe and elsewhere in the world for 70 cl bottles should be similar.
