Old Overholt Introducing Bonded Version
By Richard Thomas
With the maturity of the “Rye Revival” in recent years, some observers have wondered aloud why Jim Beam wasn’t doing more with an illustrious and venerable brand in their stable, Old Overholt, starting with David Wondrich’s excellent two-parter for The Daily Beast in September 2016. Perhaps someone at Beam Suntory was paying attention, because a year and a half later we have the introduction of Old Overholt Bonded.
Old Overholt has long been a cheap, reliably quality rye whiskey, although the price has risen as a result of the Rye Craze (and accompanying shortage) several years ago. Old Overholt Bonded brings the age up to the statutory minimum of four years, the proof up to the required 100, and all while holding to a reasonable price point of $24.99.
And that $24.99 is for a full liter bottle!
