Edrington Looking For Buyer For Cutty Sark and Glenturret Distillery
Following the grand unveiling of its new £140 million for The Macallan, Edrington is now reported as looking for a buyer for its blended whisky brands Cutty Sark and Famous Grouse, as part of a narrowing of effort to focus on higher end, luxury products.
Cutty Sark is a major selling Scotch Whisky in Southern Europe, thanks to it’s top ranking in Spain, Portugal and Greece. However, it should be noted that it’s not a Top 10 Blended Scotch Whisky. The deal would include the brand, it’s blending and bottling facilities, and presumably supply contracts with the blend’s constituent distilleries.
Also on the sales docket is Glenturret Distillery, sometimes referred to as The Famous Grouse Distillery, because it is the home of The Famous Grouse Experience. However, the sale of Glenturret is completely separate from The Famous Grouse, the best-selling whisky in Scotland itself, which Edrington intends to retain. Thus, Famous Grouse is set to lose its visitor center and Glenturret will need to either close or rebrand the center it has.
