Old Pogue Reclaims Original Distiller’s Number
Old Pogue Distillery has a history in Maysville, Kentucky that predates Prohibition, and was an example of an old distilling family getting back into the business that predated the modern craft whiskey movement. Now the revived Old Pogue has reclaimed a bit of their legacy in the form of their original DSP number.
Prior to its closure, the distillery that was purchased by H.E. Pogue I in 1876 had the number DPS-KY 3. Upon its re-foundation in 2012, they received the number DSP KY-1502.
Although it is only a license number and the change has no practical effect on any work being done at Old Pogue, as a symbol the change is significant. The revived James E. Pepper Distillery in Lexington, Kentucky was proud to have reclaimed their original number, DPS-KY 5, when they reopened earlier this year.
