Angel’s Envy Finally Turning To Sherry Casks
When Angel’s Envy got started as one of the earliest (and certainly the highest profile) examples of an independent bottler making finished whiskeys, founder Lincoln Henderson went with Port pipes for that round of secondary maturation. However, Sherry butts are in much more common usage for this role, and for several years observers have wondered if the company would ever give Sherry a try.
Now we have the answer. Angel’s Envy selected a set of four to nine year old barrels of bourbon, and entered these into Oloroso Sherry butts for a two to three year secondary maturation period. After all that was said and done, they had enough bourbon for a 3,600 bottle production run at 100 proof.
Those bottles will be on sale at the distillery and at select retailers in Kentucky starting February 15th. However, members of Angel’s Envy fan club, 500 Main, will have a crack at a number of bottles set aside for them some 72 hours in advance on the club website. Members will be able to buy a bottle, which will be set aside and waiting for them to pick up at the distillery on the 15th.
Angel’s Envy Sherry Sherry Finish is priced at $199.99.
