WhistlePig Releases A Special Mash Bill, Ultra-Aged Rye
By Richard Thomas
Vermont’s WhistlePig has two principal claims to fame: one is as a purveyor of popular, middle-aged rye whiskeys from Indiana and Canada; the other is as one of the first crop of bottlers making the transition to distilling their own products. The brand just released their third batch of FarmStock, a blend of sourced and in-house whiskeys, with the latter growing in maturity.
Now WhistlePig has announced the release of a sourced 18 Year Old rye whiskey, and one that comes not from MGP’s 95% rye or Alberta’s 100% rye, but from a mash bill of 79% rye, 15% malted rye, and 6% malted barley. WhistlePig Double Malt 18 Year Old Rye, sourced from Alberta, is bottled at 96 proof. The presale through Caskers sold out in less than half a day, but perhaps some bottles will go into regular distribution after the official release on August 26th.
