Glendronach Cask Strength Batch 8 Scotch Review
By Douglas Fraser
Rating: B
The Glendronach Cask Strength Batch 8 is the second of two sherried limited edition whiskies that embodies the Highland single malt style released late last year, the other being the 1993 Master Vintage. Master Blender Rachel Barrie did an amazing job selecting the perfect combination of the finest Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso Sherry casks from Spain. The Glendronach Cask Strength Batch 8 offers a much deeper sense of The Glendronach signature profile.
After reviewing both the The Glendronach 1993 Master Vintage and Cask Strength Batch 8, I prefer the Master Vintage over the Cask Strength. The price is much higher for the Master Vintage ($350 USD) but in my opinion it’s worth it. The Master Vintage is more full bodied and the lower ABV allows the robust notes to be detected much more easily.
The Scotch
The Glendronach Cask Strength Batch 8 is a non-chill filtered, single malt whisky with all-natural colors. Aged 10 years in Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso Sherry casks, the whisky is bottled at cask strength; 61% ABV.
Color: Deep Gold
On the nose are hints of oak, nuts, dark chocolate, cocoa, honey, coffee, and vanilla. Tasted neat, on the palate are dark chocolate, caramel, cherry, oak, raisins, coffee, sherry, cocoa, and spicy notes. The finish is long with more hints of nuts, cocoa, oak, tobacco, and leather.
The Price
The Glendronach Cask Strength Batch 8 can be found for $95 USD.
