Mackmyra Moment Körsbärsrök Swedish Whisky Review

Rating: C+
Mackmyra is the oldest distillery in Sweden, the first drops distilled back in 1999. Since then, the distillery has opened four warehouses in different corners of Sweden, and has even constructed a “Whisky Village” in north of Sweden containing a new, unique distillery utilizing the power of gravity.
The “Moment series” was created in 2011 as an exclusive series of limited edition bottlings. Since the start, around 30 unique editions have been released, with the latest being “Moment Körsbärsrök”.
Moment Körsbärsrök is made from a combination of smoky and unsmoked newmake, both from 2010. The smoky new-make was aged in ex-Bourbon casks and the unsmoked part was aged in ex-Bourbon and American oak casks seasoned with German cherry wine. It is the maturation in cherry wine casks that provides this whisky its unique name and character.
The Whisky
The color is a light golden amber. The nose is fruity with notes of pear, gooseberries and lime, cloaked in peaty smoke with a sweet, vanilla backdrop. The charred oak has a clear influence on the nose.
The taste is dominated by smoke, oak and a dry spiciness, but you can still clearly taste the sweet, fruity vanilla.
The after-taste is reasonably long with smoke that trails off accompanied by cloves and cinnamon, leaving a pleasant sweet lingering sensation.
The Price
This 43% ABV bottling is available from 25th of November in UK at a price of around £99.
This is a good gift for Christmas for the lover of smoky, spicy whiskies.
