Angel’s Envy Cask Strength Bourbon Review (2021)
By Richard Thomas
Rating: B+
It’s hard for me to believe that Angel’s Envy Cask Strength has reached it’s 10th anniversary, but here we are! “”Back in 2012, our first Cask Strength release was a run of just 600 bottles available in only two states,” said company co-founder Wes Henderson in a press release. This current installment saw a run of 14,700 bottles, so the expression has grown massively. The production process behind it has been tweaked as well, shortening the Port cask finish and pulling back on that Port influence in the stronger version. Angel’s Envy Cask Strength remains a barn burner, though, clocking at 120.7 proof.
The Bourbon
As with any whiskey poking above 60% ABV, I added a splash of water from the start. The nose on this whiskey leads with allspice and oak, followed with a strong current of bourbon brown sugar sweetness, accented with dried apricots. The palate follows in much the same vein, but with the woody aspect developing a leathery character, while the sweet side adds a note of boozy plums. The woody current, turning from oak to cedar, carried over into the finish and rode into the sunset.
The Price
A bottle of Angel’s Envy Cask Strength should set you back by $229.99.
