New Barbecue Champ Crowned By Jack Daniel’s

This weekend, the 36th Annual Jack Daniel’s World Championship Invitational Barbecue in Lynchburg, Tenn, awarded Jacksonville, Fla.-based barbecue team Kings BBQ the title of Grand Champion, earning $25,000 and the chance to defend its trophy at next year’s competition.
“From start to finish, this competition is about celebrating the barbecue community,” said Ryan King, pitmaster, Kings BBQ. “They host it for us, and winning it means I’ve accomplished a long-term goal. It means the world to stand among the best and come out on top.”
King has spent over a decade growing his passion for barbecue, which is rooted in his Southern upbringing. Through years of competition across the Southeast U.S., King has built a brand known for bold flavors and exceptional quality. His dedication was rewarded Saturday night with one of the most prestigious titles in competitive barbecue.
This year, 91 teams from around the world including Australia, Brazil, Switzerland and more competed at The Jack in categories including Pork Ribs, Pork Shoulder/Butts, Beef Brisket, Chicken, Dessert, Jack Daniel’s Sauce, and Cook’s Choice/”Home Cookin’ from the Homeland.” To qualify to compete, domestic teams must have won a state championship with a minimum of 25 competing teams, or a competition with more than 50 teams battling in the categories of Pork Ribs, Pork Butts, Chicken and Beef Brisket.
“I’m always amazed by the craft, creativity and commitment that BBQ teams from all over the world bring to our small town of Lynchburg,” said Jack Daniel’s Master Distiller Chris Fletcher. “This year was no exception, and we congratulate Kings BBQ for coming out on top among fierce competition. Just like the way we make whiskey, taking it slow can make all the difference.”
Boggs Hog BBQ was named the Reserve Grand Champion, taking home a cash prize of $10,000.
