Remy Cointreau Acquiring Westland Distillery
By Richard Thomas
French spirits group Remy Cointreau was reported yesterday to have purchased Seattle’s Westland Distillery. The financial terms of the acquisition have yet to be disclosed.
Westland Distillery has carved out a niche for itself at the front of the burgeoning American Malt Whiskey sector, taking advantage of local conditions in the Pacific Northwest to adapt Scottish whisky-making practices. They are also noted for operating on a larger scale than most micro-distilleries in America.
Westland joins the Islay’s Bruichladdich in Remy Cointreau’s relatively small, but certainly high end portfolio of whiskey distilleries.
