Orphan Barrel Reaches To Scotland’s Linkwood For New Release
Diageo’s Orphan Barrel brand continues to reach outside its American origins with the new Woven Honor 18 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky, a bottling of Linkwood Distillery’s malt.
Most of what Linkwood makes goes into Diageo blended whiskies, such as Johnnie Walker. As a distillery, Linkwood is a curiosity in that it was founded in 1821, before commercial whisky-making was legalized in Scotland. Thus, it actually began production in 1825. That original facility was demolished in the mid-to-late 19th Century to make way for the older buildings found on the property today. The plant is located near Elgin.
“Woven Honor is an exceptional Single Malt for those who treasure rare spirits and seek to capture a piece of whisky history,” said Diageo Whisky Specialist Peter Milne. “The liquid is a testament that true craftsmanship and quality are achieved through patience and the natural course of creation, just as the bottle’s label design symbolizes.”
Aged for 18 years in ex-bourbon barrels, the whisky was bottled at 46.3% ABV and listed at $185 per bottle.
