Upgrading to the Glencairn Glass

Three years ago, I wanted to buy a new television – it was time for a major upgrade. I waited and waited, did an extensive amount of research and comparison, and eventually snagged a deal with a Black Friday sale.

The day I brought it home and turned it on, I instantly realized I was a fool. Not because I made the wrong decision, but because it was such an immense and instantly-recognizable upgrade, that I never should have waited as long as I had. To this day, I’m both equally satisfied with the purchase, and equally mournful of my failure to pull the trigger at an earlier date.

I feel much the same way about the Glencairn Glass, but luckily, I was put out of my waiting-misery when I received a set of these glasses for the holidays.

Drinking whiskey from a Glencairn-style glass is simply better than drinking them from other glasses. Sure, you might look the part more – but that’s not the point. You enjoy the whiskey more.

Aromas rev their engines and speed into your welcoming olfactory receptors. Hidden flavors emerge from darkness and launch themselves onto your awaiting taste buds. I’m unsure if I’m veering into war analogy or sexual innuendo, but either way, the bottom line is that a Glencairn glass elevates your whiskey game.

Whatever old glasses you’ve been using, put them away. Buy a set of Glencairn glasses, add them to your wish list, steal them from your inattentive buddy, whatever – just get these bad boys home and start enjoying and imbibing.
