The latest limited edition from the Swedish distillery of Mackmyra is a collaboration with Masi, a winery from the Veneto (iItaly). It is called Mackmyra Skördetid, which means “harvest time” in Swedish.

This single malt has been matured in Mackmyra’s barrels at the Bodås mines to keep the distillery style, then finished in Masi Costanera Amarone barrels. This is the first time that the Swedish distillery uses Amarone barrels for a limited edition. According to Mackmyra, this gives the whisky a sweet and elegant touch. Mackmyra Skördetid has been bottled at 46.1% abv (92.2º proof) without adding color.

The Whisky
Mackmyra Skördetid is gold-colored with long tears. On the nose it is grassy and spicy. There are some dried fruit aromas blended with vanilla notes. It continues with an aniseed touch and warm notes of wine and raisins. On its fruitier side, it highlights pear and plum notes, which are followed by soft oak and clove aromas.

This Swedish single malt has a medium body and highlights pears in syrup notes that melt into sweet vanilla. There are also some raisins and ginger notes, followed by a touch of toasted barley.

The finish is medium and with a winey touch. Oak notes softly blended with wine tannins.

Mackmyra Skördetid is a whisky that needs some time in the glass to appreciate it adequately. It is quite interesting and warm, and its highlight are its winey notes. Even though they have used Amarone casks, Mackmyra Skördetid lacks that special touch to make it a surprising whisky.

The Price
Mackmyra Skördetid is a limited edition only available in some markets and in Swedish liquor stores. It is retailed around 80 euros
