By Richard Thomas
Quintessential Brands has purchased Dublin Whiskey Company (DWC) for an an undisclosed “multi-million euro” amount.
DWC was the first project that set out to build a whiskey distillery in Dublin, although they weren’t the first to open. Their neighbors in Dublin’s Newmarket, Teeling Whiskey Company, both came along later and opened their distillery earlier. Part of that multi-million euro figure includes a €10 million investment in completing renovations on the Dublin Whiskey Company’s historic Old Mill Street building, and construction of the actual distillery.
Quintssential has also announced the appointment of former Bushmills Master Distiller Darryl McNally as General Manager and Master Distiller of DWC. The distillery should be operational by summer 2017.
Quintessential Brands was started in 2011 by founded by one-time chief of Campari, Enzo Visone, and former investment banker Warren Scott. They have indicated that the acquisition of DWC is just the beginning of their move into the Irish whiskey sector.
