Traverse City Cherry Whiskey Review
By Richard Thomas
Rating: C+
Michigan’s Traverse City Distillery actually has a serious commitment to booze and cherries, if you take a look at their offerings. At a time when all the big distillers have gotten out of making whiskified cocktail cherries, Traverse has them.
They also have this flavored bourbon offering. It takes their bourbon, flavors it, and bottles it at 35% ABV (70 proof), fairly typical for liqueurs and flavored whiskeys.
The Whiskey
Cutting the proof and adding flavoring to their bourbon does good things for Traverse City Cherry Whiskey. It tones down the youthful harshness for one thing. Another plus is that the cherry flavoring doesn’t drown out the bourbon, as sometimes happens with flavored whiskeys. The two are about on par, and both pretty mild at that. This makes for a refreshing pour on the rocks or as a mixer.
The Price
Traverse City Cherry Whiskey goes for $35 a bottle.
