1792 Bottled in Bond Bourbon

Barton 1792 Distillery was established in 1879 and continues today as the oldest “fully operating” distillery in the Bardstown, Kentucky, which bills itself (with good cause) as the “Bourbon Capital of the World.” Nowadays the distillery is owned by Sazerac, so it’s under the same company roof as Buffalo Trace.
Their most recent release is 1792 Bottled in Bond Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. Made under the standards of the late 19th Century Bottled in Bond Act, the whiskey was made in a single distillery season at Barton 1792, aged in a bonded for at least four years, Federally-supervised warehouse and bottled at 100 proof. This spin on their Bourbon joins previous releases such as Port Finish, High Rye, Sweet Wheat, Single Barrel and Full Proof Bourbons.
The Bourbon
In the glass, the bourbon resembles a polished copper mint julip cup and holds a golden amber color with gripping legs in my glass. The nose is spicy and full of pine nut notes, dark fruit, vanilla pudding and fresh cut oak.
The mouthfeel is warm and fills my palate with more oak, dark fruit, maple, caramel, pine nut essence, herbal spices, and burnt toast. The finish is long and leisurely expands with hints of oak, vanilla custard, spice and essence of caramel corned popcorn we find downtown Chicago at Garrett Popcorn.
Bottled in Bond calls for at least four years old and otherwise this is a no age statement (NAS) release, but if I had to guess I would think it ran about six to eight years old. Barton 1792 Distillery has come up with another good bourbon whiskey that warrants a spot on your shelf and repeated deep pour in your glass and a friends. Grab two and enjoy a solid table Bourbon that will not disappoint.
The Price
The Barton 1792 Bottled-in-Bond will be available in December 2017, and word is they plan repeated releases of Bottled-in-Bond each fall. 1792 Bottled-in-Bond has a suggested retail price of $35.99 for a 750ml bottle.
