Canadian Company Invests €3.5m In Glendalough

By Richard Thomas

Mark Anthony Brands, a Canadian firm engaged in the production and distribution of wine, beer, spirits and soft drinks in North America, has invested €3.5 million in Glendalough, one of Ireland’s new small distilleries, in exchange for an undisclosed stake in the distillery.

Glendalough was set up five years ago by Barry Gallagher and Brian Fagan. The distillery’s current line of products include poitin and gin made in-house, as well as sourced whiskey. They do most of their business exporting to the United States.

This is the latest in a string of acquisitions in the Irish whiskey market. Recent years have seen William Grant & Sons acquire Tullamore Dew and Sazerac buy Paddy away from Irish Distillers, Brown-Forman acquire Slane Castle, and Jose Cuervo pick up Bushmills in a trade with Diageo.
