Mackmyra’s Moment Korsbar

Mackmyra Distillery is working hard to establish its own place in the European whisky market. Mackmyra Moment Körsbär, one of their latest limited editions, is another example of the Swedish whisky potential.
Mackmyra Moment Körsbär is a Swedish single malt created by Angela D’Orazio, Master Blender at Mackmyra. This limited edition whisky has been aged in first-fill bourbon and first-fill Oloroso casks that also held sweet cherry wine. In case you were wondering, Körsbär means cherry in Swedish.
Also, this single malt contains whisky that has matured in Mackmyra Reserve 30L casks. Among them, first-fill bourbon casks, first-fill american oak casks previously filled with Oloroso and a combination of ex-bourbon and new Swedish oak casks. Overall, it’s a long list of cask types used to age the whisky that went into this bottling.
Mackmyra Moment Körsbär is a limited edition that has been bottled at 47% abv (94 proof) without artificial coloring.
The Whisky
Mackmyra Moment Körsbär is pink copper in the glass, with long tears. On the nose, it is a floral and fruity whisky. There is a first blow of cherry, that slowly blends with spicy notes. These are quickly followed by sweet vanilla notes, honey, toffee and a soft hint of toasted oak.
On the palate, Mackmyra Moment Körsbär has a medium body and a silky touch. It starts smoothly, with oak and toasted sugar notes and a spicy touch (mostly pepper and ginger).
It continues with its fruitier side. Highlighting cherry notes, there are also some plums and blackcurrants, with a hint of pears. There are sponge cake notes that melt with a nutty touch and a soft hint of raisins.
The finish is long and spicy, with a sweet touch lingering on the palate. Feels like drinking a lovely carrot cake.
The team at Mackmyra is still experimenting but they are on the right track. Mackmyra Moment Körsbär is a curious and surprising whisky. It has a winey touch that can leave a bitter feeling, but it is sweet and silky. The only thing with these experiments is that they only sometimes evolve into regular releases, and it would be nice to see that happen more often.

Mackmyra Moment Körsbar is worldwide available in limited quantities. It is retailed at €120.
