I am always reluctant to write a review on any liquid that deviates from too far from the definition of whisk(e)y, which includes any form of liqueur. It’s really rather simple: I enjoy whiskey and prefer sticking close to my roots.

However, an in-home movie night with friends offered a perfect venue to break out Five Farms Single Batch Irish Cream Liqueur, imported by Holladay Distillery in Weston, Missouri.

The Liqueur
The liqueur was coffee-colored, but the texture was noticeably creamy and left a thin covering of milky white legs and film around the glass. As soon as the bottle was opened, the nose was apparent. The room was gently filled with aromas of butterscotch, caramel and chocolate covered cherries.

The palate experience was exquisite, filling the mouth with a creamy presence. The Irish Cream Liqueur wasn’t thick or syrupy, but gave a soft velvety mouthfeel. Most of the flavors hit at mid-mouth both upper and lower. There were strong notes of cream, butterscotch and caramel. I also found some light chocolate and, finally, some good Irish Whiskey. At 34 proof, there wasn’t any burn, but only a slight warming to hint at its presence. The finish was short to medium in length and filled with butterscotch gradually edging towards chocolate covered cherries. The growing warmth continued, but only at a distance.

My wife doesn’t drink whiskey, but can’t leave this stuff alone. It’s great by itself neat and can be quite accommodating in coffee or cocktails. I would also strongly suggest it with anything involving ice cream.

The Price
At a suggested $29.99, there’s no excuse for not giving it a try.

  1. Just tried Five Farms Irish Cream Liqueur and love it! It was on sale and being a Bailey’s drinker (especially around the holidays) decided to try it – it is delicious! Had it in my mocha with half and half this morning – smooth, creamy, flavorful, rich – I am not a whiskey drinker per se, but I love this stuff! Merry Christmas! Slainté Mhath!!!

  2. Has anyone heard of of the word “hype”. Abundantly present here. Cream was thin/watery and did not have the mouth feel one would expect from a bottle which is twice as spendy as Baileys.

    Save your money.

    • Dude you’re insane. This stuff is amazing, go drink your vodka somewhere else

    • I would have to agree that this guy is insane. Five Farms has a triple buttercream content which is by far and away a superior cream to Baileys. It also uses a way higher Irish Whiskey content where Baileys uses neutral grain spirits. Even friends of mine who don’t like Irish Cream love Five Farms! It is what all Irish Creams should taste like.

Can you tell me if this is gluten free? I’ve emailed the company but haven’t received a response, thank you

    • […] the stuff was great if you can’t afford it get a job or a better job

    • Are you nuts this is amazing something wrong with your palate

  3. I was nervous about trying this due to the price so would my brother had some and offered me to try it I fell in love with it. So when it’s on sale at my local liquor store I will buy it again as I got a discounted price when I bought my first bottle I think it’s wonderful and one of my sons and I always have Baileys coffee When we are on vacation together I think we have changed our tradition to five farms

  4. Love this! Was so disappointed when my favorite Bushmills Irish Cream Whiskey was bought out and discontinued by Baileys!!! Been doing without until I discovered Five Farms via a media blitz on Facebook!!! Happy girl!!!!

  5. I have just had a glass , it is so good, very smooth,
No more Baileys for me , so superior.

  6. I wanted to upgrade from Baileys, didn’t seem as good as it used to. So asked young clerk at liquor store and he recommended Five Farms………..well, hey, its Christmas and I said ‘why not’? Merry Christmas to me, right! Man o man, this stuff is awesome!! True, not quite as thick as Baileys…but oh, the taste is far superior. Warms the back of the throat and lingers there a bit. I keep it in the fridge and use a shot glass to drink some before bed. Splurge, your worth it!
