It’s common nowadays that some rare whiskies increase their price and become more difficult to find. Whisky Foundation has launched The Reserve, a selection dubbed by them as “the stock market” of whiskies. That represents a market-driven pricing scheme, where the price tag fluctuates based on demand.

The first and current example is a Springbank 24 year old, aged in Sherry casks and has been bottled in 2017 by The Maltman at 47.1% volume (94.2 proof).

The Scotch
On the glass, the whisky has a copper tone with medium tears. Springbank 24 is a dry whisky on the nose. There are coffee and nuts notes, with a light smoky touch. It also has some sweet and fruity notes, with a slight note of orange zest.

On the palate, it is warm and sweet. Some vanilla and honey notes blend with nuts and dark chocolate. There are also some spice notes, mostly cinnamon, with a fruity touch that highlights orange zest. It is followed by soft and light smoke notes and a touch of black pepper. The finish is long and a little bit bitter.

Springbank 24 is a complex and interesting whisky that can be a great choice if you get it on Whisky Foundation’s low demand period. Keep your eyes open for a price drop.

The Price
Only 225 bottles of Springbank 24 are available worldwide. Its starting point was $1, though according to Whisky Foundation experts, the value of this whisky is around $550. Today the price is set at $351, though a few weeks ago it was around $520. Tomorrow it could raise or even get a little bit cheaper.

  1. Really good concept, especially if you buy early in the pricing. Now it’s $2000 (insane price).
