“Blended by Angels, to be Shared with Friends” is the tagline of this new blended (vatted) malt from Grantown-on-Spey in Scotland. The whisky is a blended malt from independent bottlers Highfern (founded by Robert Ransom, formerly of Glenfarclas), crafted from Speyside and Highland malts.

The creation is said to have been inspired by the legend of the angels’ share, which attributes the evaporation of alcohol maturing in casks to some very lucky angels. Angels’ Nectar is an attempt to re-create what those greedy angels could be enjoying.

The release is limited to 6,000 bottles.

The Whisky
This blended malt has a light, golden color. The nose is very fruity with clear citrus notes of lemon and lime intermingled with a fresh cent of green apples and pears. There is also a clear backdrop of spices and herbs.

After the first sip, the fruity notes are there together with a honey sweetness, but are soon accompanied with strong spiciness of cloves and a hint of chili. In the aftertaste, the spiciness falls away and leaves a lingering residue of mild coffee notes and bitter chocolate.

This blended malt is a good entry-level malt with a strong fruity flavor profile that makes an impression but falls away quite quickly.

The Price
With a limited edition of 6000 bottles at £35 per bottle in UK, this is a good buy as a present or an everyday dram.
