Compass Box Introduces New Vatted Malt, Tobias & The Angel

Having decided that they wanted to use this famous painting for the label, the team at Compass Box had to locate it. Fortuitously, it turned out the painting resides at the National Gallery in London, not far from the Compass Box office and blending room. They contacted the museum, demonstrated how they intended to use the painting, and subsequently received permission, gladly paying a royalty to the museum for the usage.

The whisky itself is compelling blend of just over half 24-year-old malt whisky from the Clynelish distillery, aged in American oak hogsheads. The balance is elegantly peaty malt whisky from the Caol Ila distillery of a considerably older age. Combined, they create an ethereal Scotch malt whisky, one with a hauntingly delicate peaty character. Glaser says,

“The pedigree here is, to us, of the highest calibre. The depth, complexity and length are that of a world class, extremely well-aged whisky. This is special stuff, indeed.”
