In the mountains of Vermont lies the town of Jeffersonville, home of the Smugglers Notch Distillery. Named after the famous passage through the Appalachian mountain range, Smugglers Notch was part of a number of routes used to smuggle goods, including alcohol, from Canada into the United States during a trade embargo in the early 1800s. Today the area is known for its majestic mountain and foliage views, skiing, arts and crafts, and the small resort town.

The distillery instills a sense of Vermont into its spirits. One could say it will put you in the fall spirit, so makes good use of the resources produced in VT including the maple syrup, spring mountain spring water, and wood. Along with the Maple Bourbon, the distillery produces a rye whiskey, straight bourbon, vodka, rum, and gin.

The Bourbon
Color: Deep Bronze

The Maple Bourbon is infused with 100% pure organic VT maple syrup that was aged in bourbon barrels. Bottled at 45% ABV, the bourbon has a nice maple sweetness with a hint of smoke. However, the spiciness is a little overpowering.

Nose: Maple, oak, vanilla, cinnamon, graham crackers, a hint of smoke, and some honey.

Palate: Charred oak, maple, vanilla, peppery, cinnamon spice, and slight smokiness.

Finish: Medium length, vanilla, pepper, oak, and maple.
