Dad’s Hat To Release New Batch of Straight Rye In October

By Richard Thomas

Dad’s Hat, the Pennsylvania micro-distillery located a short drive to the northeast of Philadelphia, has announced the planned October release of their new batch Dad’s Hat Straight Pennsylvania Rye Whiskey. This follows their first batch, released in 2014.

As indicated by the “straight” designation, this rye must be at least two years of age, and in fact has spent over three years maturing in standard size, 53-gallon new ASBs. The whiskey comes from the same hardcore rye, no corn mashbill as Dad’s Hat Classic, 80% rye, 5% malted rye and 15% malted barley.

This first batch of straight rye whiskey from Dad’s Hat will be in limited quantities, but will nonetheless be distributed to all the states where Dad’s Hat is currently in circulation. So, if you can see other Dad’s Hat whiskeys on the shelf at your local liquor store, this one should be coming to you. The recommended retail price is $64.99.

Coming after the Dad’s Hat Straight Rye is a Bottled-in-Bond rye whiskey, made to the same mashbill. To qualify as Bottled-in-Bond, that whiskey must be a minimum four years old, come from the same distilling season, and be bottled at 100 proof.
