Kinsey 10 Year Old American Whiskey Review
By Douglas Fraser
Rating: B-
During the Christmas holiday, I was given a wonderful gift containing a box set of 3 whiskeys from a craft distillery in Philadelphia called New Liberty Distillery. If it were not for my girlfriend’s cousin, Brian, I might not have discovered these pleasant drams called Kinsey.
New Liberty Distillery in Philadelphia, PA, is located just a few minutes north of the center of the city. In addition to the Kinsey line, this same distillery makes the Penna Dutch Malt, but the Kinsey line itself (the revival of a defunct brand name) consists of an American blend, a bourbon and a rye.
The Whiskey
Kinsey 10 Year Old American Blended Whiskey is an evolution of the previous expression, a 7 year old, and is made of 100% corn and matured in reused oak barrels. This whiskey is very approachable and easy on the palate. I found many similarities to a blended Scotch present in the spirit, and it is even bottled at a Scotch-like 43.4% ABV. It’s a sourced expression.
Color: Bright Gold
Nose: Floral, honey, sweet cream corn, butter, oakiness, and a touch of banana and vanilla.
Palate: Green apple, vanilla, honey, caramel, oily, and sweet cream corn.
Finish: Medium, subtle spices arise, oak, vanilla, honey and parchment paper.
The Price
Kinsey 10-year American Blended Whiskey can be found for $40.
