Smooth Ambler Contradiction Taking A Double Cut, In Price And Proof

Contradiction Bourbon, which Smooth Ambler Spirits introduced in 2015, is a blend of bourbon they source and bourbon they make at their distillery in West Virginia. Always intended to be a marriage of the homemade and the merchant-bottled, the ages of each whiskey comprising Contradiction have increased since the first release. Now Smooth Ambler, with greater amounts of more mature whiskey to choose from, is able to respond to two separate consumer requests: that of a slightly lower proof to appeal to a wider range of drinker, and a reduced retail price to reflect the change in proof and open the brand up to a broader range of consumers and trade.

“When Contradiction was new in the market, we arrived at a retail price of $49.99, mostly based on our supply but also because we thought that price was on par with the field of premium and unique bourbons,” says Smooth Amber CEO and Head Distiller John Little. “But now we at long last find ourselves in the position where supply is beginning to open up and that, coupled with a popular request to nudge the proof down just a bit, makes lowering the price at the same time as the ABV sensible to us. Sensible and just the right thing to do.”

Smooth Ambler Contradiction, at the new 92 Proof and $39.99 retail price, should begin to appear on retail shelves by August 1, 2018.
