The northern Italian distillery Puni has made their inaugural release of cask strength, single malt whisky, Puni Aura 01. For this release, the distillery chose a whisky that was first aged for two and a half years in ex-bourbon barrels, before going on to spend another four years in Scotch whisky casks from the Isle of Islay. Then, after six and a half years of total maturation, the whiskey was bottled at full cask strength of 56.2% ABV.
The single malt is said to be a sweet, but somewhat smoky pour. Only 393 bottles were produced in this first installment (presumably others will follow).
