Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Bourbon Due In Next Month

This September, Old Forester will release the latest expression in the Whiskey Row Series: the 1920 Prohibition Style. The Whiskey Row Series, begun in 2014, invites bourbon lovers to taste their way through bourbon history with each thematic expression. The series highlights Old Forester’s significant milestones and production innovations with each release.

This third release in the series, 1920 Prohibition Style, celebrates the brand’s continued distillation during Prohibition. For 13 years, the Eighteenth Amendment strictly prohibited the production, transport and sale of alcohol. However, the Volstead Act of 1920 granted limited permits to produce medicinal whiskey during Prohibition. It was one of those ten permits allotted nationally that allowed Old Forester to continue distilling on Louisville’s infamous Whiskey Row, making it the only bourbon continually distilled by the same family before, during and after Prohibition.

“Old Forester is a bourbon with such prominent history. It allows us to look back at a rich timeline that spans across five generations,” said Campbell Brown, Old Forester President and fifth generation Brown family member. “In crafting 1920, we were able to spend time thinking about the legacy of Owsley Brown I and what was an incredibly unique era in our country’s history – Prohibition. 1920 Prohibition Style is our toast to the innovative and enduring spirit of Old Forester.”

The 115 proof expression represents a barrel sample that company president Owsley Brown would have batched at the beginning of Prohibition.

“If you had a prescription for whiskey during prohibition, you could likely get your hands on a bottle of Old Forester Bonded Bourbon. If you had friends in the business during Prohibition, you could get your hands on some whiskey straight from the barrel,” said Jackie Zykan, Old Forester Master Bourbon Specialist. “Whiskey Row 1920 is an insider’s sip, an expression of vintage barrel strength, with a perfect palate of warm autumn nuances.”

With a suggested retail price of $59.99 for a 750 ml, Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style will hit shelves nationally in September.
