Johnnie Walker Launches First New Regular Release Whisky In 15 Years
By Richard Thomas
A decade and a half ago, Johnnie Walker introduced their two permanent brand extensions, or whiskies that went into regular release as most drinkers think of such things. Those were Double Black and Platinum, the later since renamed as Johnnie Walker 18 Year Old. Now the world’s best-selling whisky brand has invented a new expression in the vein of Johnnie Walker Black and Double Black, one with an eye on American whiskey (and its lucrative market), Johnnie Walker Black Cask.
Walker whiskies are famously concocted using dozens of sources in Scotland, and in the case of Black Cask the master blender, Dr. Emma Walker, has rooted the malt side of the blend in Cameronbridge, Glen Elgin, and Roseisle. The nod to America is in that the stocks used were aged solely in ex-bourbon barrels.
“At Johnnie Walker we are constantly pushing the boundaries of what great whisky can be,” said Dr. Emma Walker. “For more than 200 years, Johnnie Walker has shaped the world of Scotch, and that heritage gives us the confidence and authority to innovate. With Black Cask, we’ve brought together two remarkable whisky traditions in a way only Johnnie Walker can, starting with some of the most expressive whiskies from the heart of Black Label and maturing them exclusively in American white oak ex‑bourbon barrels to unlock new depth, sweetness, and warmth. The result is a beautifully layered whisky that feels excitingly new yet remains unmistakably Johnnie Walker.”
Johnnie Walker Black Cask will be available beginning March 1, 2026, in the United States wherever fine spirits are sold, for a suggested retail price of $34.99 per 750 ml bottle at 43% ABV.
