Tullamore Dew Distillery Opens To Visitors
By Richard Thomas
When I first visited the Tullamore Dew distillery in November 2014, it had been open for just two months and was a source of confusion for tourists. Instead of going to the older visitor center, located along the canal in the center of Tullamore, tour buses would often turn up at the distillery on the outskirts of town, and the distillery wasn’t open for visitors.
Now that has changed. More than a year after its grand opening, Tullamore Dew distillery now has open doors to tourists through its Ultimate Distillery Experience tour. The four to five hour tour is limited to groups of eight or less, and costs €150 per person (includes lunch), and embraces the entire production process at the distillery. That includes a stab at making your own blended whiskey in the Blending Room.
