US importer Palm Bay International and family-owned Walsh Whiskey Distillery have introduced Writer’s Tears Irish Whiskey to the American market.

Writers Tears is named for the esteemed Irish writers and playwrights of the 19th century who sought inspiration and comfort in their local watering holes. The whiskey is produced using the same methods as original 19th Century Irish distillers, a blend of triple distilled malt and pot still whiskey. Both of those types are made solely in copper pot stills, and all the whiskey is matured in ex-bourbon barrels.

Chosen as Best Blended Whiskey at the Irish Whiskey Awards, Writer’s Tears is also a gold medal winner at the International Spirits Challenge in London and one of the highest-rated Irish whiskies in Jim Murray’s Iconic Whiskey Bible. Murray described it as, “Altogether a very unusual Irish whiskey, a throwback to the last century where spiced pure pot still whiskey was married with floral single malt.” It has also been added to Ian Buxton’s publication 101 Whiskies to Try Before You Die.

Writers Tears is currently available in NY, PA, MN, DC and MA for a suggested retail price of $40.

  1. Please forward information relative to shops/stores selling Writer’s Tears in the
state of Minnesota. I will be traveling there in the next two weeks and would
like to purchase Writer’s Tears at that time.

    Many thanks.

  2. We were in Dublin and by an act of pure fate were invited to attend and participate in the tasting and awards presentation I believe in 2014 or ’15. We brought as many bottles back to San Diego that they would allow. It was indeed the best Irish Whiskey I’ve ever tasted. Until then I was a devout scotch man. But since I had the privilege of tasting Writers Tears I’ve never gone back. Sad news? Our bottles are now empty but our thirst is still even more pervasive than before we took our first taste. Please tell me where we can purchase or order WT in the San Diego area.
