Johnnie Walker Green Returns For Now
By Richard Thomas
The reappearance of Johnnie Walker Green Label, the 15 year old vatted malt so popular with many Scotch drinkers, on American store shelves starting in February prompted a flurry of speculation in whiskey circles, as it was unaccompanied by any announcement on the part of parent company Diageo. Green Label was replaced by a combination of the higher priced Platinum Label and a revamped version of Gold Label.
As the weeks passed, more people noticed the return of Green Label or heard the talk on the subject, which might have been parent company Diageo’s purpose all along. The British drinks giant eventually confirmed that Green Label was back, albeit only in the United States and only temporarily, as a 10th anniversary gesture.
