Cask 88 Has A 50 Year Old Glenlivet Coming In June

Sourced from one of the casks chosen by Scotch whisky legend Abe Rosenberg, who is well-known for importing whisky to the United States in the post-Prohibition era, Cask 88’s 50 year Old Glenlivet (44.5% ABV; £6,800 RRP; #6201; distilled 10th October 1968) matured over five decades in a sherry hogshead cask and is part of a very limited run of 272 bottles. Housed in a handcrafted display case, which was inspired by the aesthetics of a whisky cask and created by Cumbrian luxury craftsmen Croglin, the engraved decanter of Italian glass is sealed with a bespoke tamper seal and neckband of silver engraved by Scottish silversmiths Hayward & Stott.

The cask from which this 50 Year Old Glenlivet was sourced is known to have been part of the historic cask collection of New Yorker Abe Rosenberg, who was a dedicated importer of Scotch whisky to the United States following the era of Prohibition. He invested in a large number of young casks of single malt whiskies from many well known and highly regarded distilleries, even as his contemporaries preferred blends. By the time of his passing in 1994, he had developed a collection of around 4,000 single casks. “Abe is known as something of a legend in the industry, thanks to his dedication to spreading the love of single malt whisky internationally,” said Cask 88 Director Patrick Costello. “Sadly, Abe is not with us to sample this exceptional cask, we hope lovers of single malt whisky will offer a toast to his memory when they’re enjoying this fine liquid.”

Joining a range of independent bottlings that includes the multi-awarding winning Scottish Folklore Series, the 272 bottles of this 50 Year Old Glenlivet from Cask 88 is available to reserve for worldwide delivery through the Cask 88 website from Wednesday 17 April, and in person from Cask 88 Sales Managers globally. Shipping of the bottle will commence in June 2019.
