Kinsey 4 Year Old Rye is the second of the three whiskies in the Kinsey box set I received for Christmas 2019 (I’ve also written up the 10 Year Old American Whiskey). Kinsey is a revived brand coming from New Liberty Distillery in Philadelphia, PA. The distillery pays homage to the original foundation along the banks of the Schuylkill River with the Kinsey Whiskeys, and the rye is billed as an interpretation of 19th Century Pennsylvania Rye.

It’s a blend of rye whiskeys sourced from MGP in Indiana, all of them at least four years old: their classic 95% rye whiskey, plus their newer creations, a 51% rye, 49% malted barley whiskey and a 51% rye, 45% corn, 4% malted barley whiskey.

The Whiskey
For a rye whiskey, Kinsey is surprisingly sweet and well rounded. The whiskey is bottled as 86 proof/43% ABV.

Color: Light Amber

Nose: Spicy, dark chocolate, brown sugar, coffee, oak, and salted caramel.

Palate: Pepper (becomes more intense as time goes on), dry, mint, orange peel, and dark chocolate.

Finish: Long and spicy, the sweetness fades, mint, and oak.

The Price
Kinsey Rye Whiskey 4 year is found for $35.
